About The Event
Description
Public engagement can benefit research, researchers and the public – but how do you go about demonstrating this change? Evaluation of engagement lets us demonstrate the value of our engagement and can brings us closer to our audiences by giving them a strong clear voice. Through two workshops you will explore the how to plan effective evaluation for any engagement situation. Demonstrate success to funders; record Impact for REF; learn how to improve your processes and have a better understanding of the people you are connecting with.
The workshops will be led by Dr Jamie Gallagher an award-winning engagement trainer and consultant who has worked around the world improving the reach, profile and impact of research in almost every academic discipline.
You can choose to attend both workshops or just the one which feels most relevant to you.
Workshop 1: Introduction to Evaluation 9:30 – 12:30
This workshop is ideal for anyone who is beginning their engagement journey or looking to gain some practical knowledge of evaluation. This workshop will guide you through the best evaluation processes showing you When, Why and crucially How to use evaluation to give you reliable and clear data.
Objectives
Following this workshop, you should be able to:
• Understand the purposes, uses and limitations of evaluation
• Apply event-appropriate evaluation methods in multiple scenarios
• Prepare useful, answerable and relevant evaluation questions
Workshop 2: Evaluating Impact 13:30 – 16:30
This workshop will look in more detail at evaluation methodologies, recording impact and long-term monitoring. This session is designed for people who have some experience in engagement and/or evaluation. Discover how to structure your evaluation data into a compelling impact narrative and develop evaluation plans.
Objectives
Following this workshop, you should be able to:
• Devise and deliver your own evaluation plan
• Interpret and report evaluation data
• Prepare impact narratives for reporting
